Make it More Middlesbrough
Working in partnership with Navigator North, we're pretty excited to announce our project 'Wish You Were Here' - commissioned for 'Make it More Middlesbrough'
'Make it More Middlesbrough' is a creative exhibition and events programme, part of the national Heritage Open Days. Run by Navigator North out of the creative hub, and historic ex-pub: The Masham Gallery, MIMM is inspired by Middlesbrough and the people and places in it.
"Acting as a live project space our exhibition will grow and develop during the programme, allowing people to share their own stories and creative responses with each other and the public. We’ll be sharing the work of artists and creatives and offering opportunities to learn new skills and get involved in activity programmes, meet new people and perhaps get to know Middlesbrough and its heritage a little bit better." - Navigator North
Wish You Were Here
As part of an events and live project, we've commissioned artist Aimee Charlotte to run the Wish You Were Here - a postcard from Middlesbrough - where she'll be exploring the lesser-known tourist attractions of Teesside
What do you wish people could see about your town?
What beautiful places do you notice that other people don't?
Sometimes I go to the dinosaur park, sit in the car park and eat my lunch. I have no idea why there's a dinosaur park here. But there is.
I wouldn't be surprised if hardly anyone knew we have a park full of giant steel dinosaurs.
I'm also not sure why the town centre skyline is full of butterflies, I like it though.
'Wish You Were Here' is a visual arts project designed by the Unelected Middlesbrough Tourism Board. Inspired by Middlesbrough’s culture, venues and heritage - we're exploring Middlesbrough from a local perspective; as a destination with places of beauty, significance and interest that anyone would love to visit.
The project aims to create a series of artist works about the area, which will be printed as a range of postcards. The postcards will be distributed, and hopefully shared with the world to show what the town has to offer to its visitors and residents.
Artist Aimee Charlotte has been commissioned to set up a live studio space in the Masham Gallery for the duration of September - Visitors will have the chance to find out about the methods being used to create the work and see the final image.
'Make It More Middlesbrough': The opening exhibition is Saturday 9th September 11am - 4pm.
